Walter R. "Pork Chop" Brackenrich, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Walter R. “Pork Chop” Brackenrich, Jr., age 82, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Mercy Health Partners – Sherman Campus. He was born July 2, 1928 in Kieffer, West Virginia, and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He worked 30 years for CWC-Textron and retired in 1986. On December 27, 1996, he married the former Geraldine A. “Gerry” (Halvorsen) Reefman in Muskegon and she survives him. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was a Life Member of the VFW #7729. Along with his wife, Gerry, he is also survived by 2 children, Robert Herbert-Brackenrich of Muskegon, Susie (Ernie) Overla-Medema of Manton, MI; 1 step-son, Robert (Wanda) Reefman of Sierra Madra, CA; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Hilbert Brackenrich of Ravenna, OH, Woodrow (Claire) Brackenrich of Stewart, FL, Anna Lee Smith of Muskegon, James Lewis (Lucy) Brackenrich of Wilson, AR, Masil (Fran) Brackenrich of Muskegon, Ray Lee (Barbara) Brackenrich of Muskegon, Mickey (Jaye) Brackenrich of Ravenna, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by 2 step-sons, Bill and Dan Reefman; his parents; 2 brothers, Lawrence and Eugene Brackenrich; and 1 sister, Kathleen Phillips. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue (231) 726-5210 with Pastor Ryan Counsell officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Egelston Township Cemetery with Military Honors offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. VISITATION with his family will be one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Tuesday. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
