Wayne H. Johnson's Obituary
Wayne H. Johnson, age 70, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 19, 2020. He was born on June 24, 1949 in Muskegon, MI to Harvey and Betty (Shaffer) Johnson. He was a proud veteran, serving his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. While in the Army, Wayne was part of the 5th Transportation Division and received the honors of a Bronze Star for meritorious duty during hostile action in Vietnam. He dedicated 30 plus years working as a corrections officer for the State of Michigan. On August 2, 1982 he married the love of his life, Zenaida Vazquez in Leland, MI. Together they cherished 37 years of marriage full of love and laughter. Wayne was known to be an adventurous man who enjoyed hiking and spending most of his spare time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and was also a Master Gardener. He also had a soft spot for animals, especially his cats. He will always be remembered for always putting others first and the consideration he had for everyone. He was a compassionate and gentle-loving soul who will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Zenaida Vazquez- Johnson of N. Muskegon; brother, Michael Johnson of Spring Lake; 2 sisters, Patti (Robert) Johnson of Spring Lake and Shelley (Dennis) Powell of Spring Lake; special cousins and hiking companions, Ken and Betty Jean of Ludington; 4 nieces, Shannon Monday, Alissa Olsen, Kacie Steigman and Becky Johnson, and 2 nephews, Joshua Powell and Nathan Powell. He is preceded in death by his parents. In honoring Wayne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service.
