Willard L. "Bill" Hewitt's Obituary
Mr. Willard L. “Bill” Hewitt, age 92, died Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2015, in Grand Haven. He was born November 11, 1922 in Homestead Twp., Benzie County, MI to Alvin M. and Charlotte (Butcher) Hewitt; and had resided in the Muskegon area the past 71 years. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 – 1945; and fighting in six campaigns, ending at the Eagle’s Nest. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired in 1987 as a machinist from Shaw-Walker Co. where he had been employed 38 years. Bill was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church and of its Bowling League. He was also a member of Hickory Knoll Golf Course. Bill loved his family, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On February 14, 1947 he married the former Elizabeth E. “Betty” Malda in Muskegon Heights; and she survives him along with 5 children, Theodore (Darlene) Hewitt, Duane (Suzanne) Hewitt, Linda (Tom) Mazurek, Vicki (Jeff) Botbyl and Scott (Michele) Hewitt; 9 grandchildren, Erica Brezinski, Doug & Carrie Hewitt, Spencer Hewitt, Sara & Pastor Jeremiah Mannschreck, Katie & Tom Burns, Jordan & Casie Botbyl, Jessica, Jacob & Lauren Hewitt; and by 3 great-grandchildren; Tyler, Blake and Addison Hewitt. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 brothers and sisters. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 9, 2015 The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49441 (231-798-1100) with the Rev. Jerry D. Postema officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with Bill’s family will be 3-6:00PM Sunday.
