William "Bill" Barton's Obituary
William (Bill) Barton, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend entered heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2024. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on May 27, 1937. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1955, was drafted in 1959, served in the Army as a private, and then as an officer in the Infantry. Bill married the love of his life, Peggy Atkins on June 20, 1959. He spent the majority of his career at Sealed Power/Dana Corporation beginning in Muskegon, Michigan; then Franklin, Kentucky; Mexico City, Mexico, and finally back to Muskegon until his retirement as Plant Manager in 1999. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and served on the Board for many years. Bill was also a board member of the Family Financial Credit Union. He was a member and volunteer at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with friends and his son Bill in his younger years. Later, golf became his highlighted interest, and he enjoyed playing with his friends and family. He spent a lot of his time watching and supporting his son Jon’s golf passion as a junior and later watching his grandsons, Andrew & Nathan play in competition.
He cherished spending time with his family, helping his children, enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always had a project he was working on. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his son, Bill; his parents, Charles & Mildred; his sister, Clarissa; and brother, Charles. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Barton; son, Jon (Nicole) Barton; daughter-in-law, Tami Barton; grandchildren, Courtney, Katelyn, Andrew (Marina), and Nathan; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Sophia, and Scarlett.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE and Military Rites for Bill will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 5, 2024, at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church (4861 Henry St., Norton Shores, MI 49441) with Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. VISITATION with the family will be held on April 4, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
