Deacon William "Bill" Charles Charron entered eternal rest in the arms of God on the morning of May 22, 2024
Bill Charron, born November 3, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away after a life well-lived. He graduated from St. Bernard’s Elementary School, Austin High School, and the University of Detroit. In 1959, he married Diane Barbara Jackson, sharing 64 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife Diane, and his four children: David, Debbie (Mark) VanDam, Carol, and Jennifer (Tom) Maj. He had 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Clement Charron, his sister Margaret Helen Brennan.
Bill excelled in his career at Kresge/Kmart Corporation, rising from the stock room to district manager. Later, he transitioned to serve churches, becoming the business manager for Holy Family of Caledonia and St. Patrick’s-St. Anthony’s parish of Grand Haven.
In 2006, he answered the call and was ordained as a deacon, serving at St. Mary’s of Spring Lake. He has the distinction of receiving all 7 Catholic sacraments. Even in his frailty he never lost the desire to serve. He cherished the many baptisms, marriages, and funerals he performed as a Deacon at St. Mary’s of Spring Lake
Throughout his life, Bill lived by Matthew 25, actively participating in various roles within the Catholic community, including DRE, catechist, jail ministry and his involvement in fair housing & literacy. He will be remembered for his love of family, history, golf, Lionel trains, and his dedication to service. He loved his family, worked hard to achieve in his career, and then served his church.
Rest well, good and faithful servant, you have now joined the communion of saints.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. Visitation will be held 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM before the service at church. A reception will follow at the church. The burial will be private for immediate family only.
