Mr. William "Bill" Dooley's Obituary
Mr. William R. “Bill” Dooley, 73, passed away Tuesday evening, January 24, 2023, in Muskegon. He was born February 28, 1949 to Francis W. and Shirley J. (Bradley) Dooley in Edgerton, Wisconsin, where he played baseball and basketball as a child, before graduating from Craig High School in 1968. Bill coached his daughter in softball and also coached men’s baseball. This led to 17 years of high school umpiring. He moved to the Muskegon area in 1979. Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Muskegon for 28 years before retiring. He was a registered Michigan High School Athletic Association Official for Baseball and Softball for 17 years. Umpiring was his love after retirement, and he had dreams of becoming a Major League umpire. He loved traveling out West to Colorado and visiting National League Baseball Parks. He could talk on and on about his Navy days and baseball games. Bill had a relationship with the Lord as his Savior and that comforted him greatly. On November 30, 1979, Bill married Denise A. Taylor and she survives him along with four children: Angela Weber, Richard Dooley, Randall Dooley and Diana (Robert) Harris; grandchildren: Seth Harris and Owen Dooley; brother Dennis Dooley; sister Mary (Thomas) Hergert; special mother-in-law Lucille Taylor; sisters-in-law Sandra Dwelley and Patricia (John) Hobart; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Monday, January 30, at 11:00 AM at the Family Bible Church, 1256 W. Broadway Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441. Visitation at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, January 29, and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Janesville, Wisconsin. Contributions in memory of Mr. Dooley may be made to the American Cancer Society.
