William E. Farwig's Obituary
William E. Farwig, age 91, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014. He was born on September 24, 1923 to William and Anna (Gould) Farwig and has lived all of his life in the Muskegon area. Bill was a member of Community of Christ Church and sang in the choir. Bill served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a charter member of the Eastside Lions and treasurer for the Orchard View School board for 17 years. Prior to Bill’s retirement in 2005 he had worked as Muskegon Township Supervisor and was a trustee for the Township for 20 years. Prior to that he worked 31 years for George Morrell Corporation as the shipping and receiving supervisor. Bill enjoyed golf and coaching little league sports while his children were growing up. He was a part of the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Planning Commission from 1970-1999. He was certified with the society of real estate appraisers Grand Rapids, Michigan Chapter #91, and won the chapter’s annual golf tournament five years in a row. He was also designated National Association of Review Appraisers – CRA, and state assessors board certified at Level 3. On January 12, 1946, he married Helen V. McIntosh and she survives him along with 4 children, Pamela (David) Jordan of Houghton Lake, William (Debby) Farwig of Muskegon, Gary (Sharron) Farwig of N. Muskegon and Merri Joy (Robert) Luke of Holland; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rachel (James) Wierda. Bill was preceded in death by parents, and two brothers, Earl and Harold Farwig. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11AM Monday, December 8, 2014 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Elder Skip Hicks officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS can be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation - JDRF.
