William A. "Bill" Hjort's Obituary
William Andrew “Bill” Hjort, age 80, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was born August 28, 1941 in Joliet, IL to Eric and Madelyn (Drauden) Hjort. Bill graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked 30 years in California as a repair gauge operator and returned to Michigan following his retirement in 1998. Bill enjoyed wood working and fixing things and was known in the neighborhood as “Mr. Fix It.” Lake Michigan was a treasure to him which he drove to everyday, weather permitting. Bill is survived by his grandson, Caiden Hjort of Green Cove Springs, FL; sister, Barbara Homrich of Defiance, OH; 9 nieces and nephews: Joseph (Joy) Homrich, twins Amy and Ann Homrich, Mary Ellen (Dan) Brocklehurst, David (Debra) Homrich, Paul Homrich, Stephen (Kelly) Homrich, James (Cristy) Homrich, and Heidi (Rick) Reinhart; and 5 cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eric Hjort in 2010; and brother-in-law, Joseph Homrich. According to Bill’s wishes, there will be no services.
