William A. Liefer's Obituary
Mr. William A. “Bill” Liefer, age 79, passed away early Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Poppen Residence. He was born January 15, 1933 in Muskegon Heights to Bernard and Myrtle (Goranson) Liefer, and resided his whole life in the area. Bill was a Veteran of US Army, serving his country during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he worked 27 years as a cost accountant for Neway Anchorlock. He was involved in many sports, but loved golfing and bowling. Bill was a member of the Greater Muskegon Bowing Association and was inducted into the Greater Muskegon Bowling Hall of Fame. He was currently a member of Unity Reformed Church, and earlier a Deacon at Christ Community Church. On June 28, 1957 he married the former Karen DeWitt and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Karen survives him along with 2 daughters, Heidi (Andy) Saenz of St. Joseph, Il and Holly Liefer of Muskegon; 4 grandchildren, Eric and Jordan Saenz and Christian and Emma Swiatek; 1 brother, Don Liefer of Muskegon, 1 sister, Marilyn (Allan) Engstrom of Muskegon, sisters-in-law, Shirley Liefer, Irene Peterson and Diane Roels; brothers-in-law, Wesley (Agnes) DeWitt and Erwin Buitendorp; many nieces and nephews and special niece, Kathy Liefer. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Ken Liefer. The MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Unity Reformed Church (1521 Porter Rd.) with Pastor Kyle DeYoung officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11AM. Memorial Contributions to the Poppen Residence or Unity Reformed Church would be appreciated.
