William F. Mastenbrook Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. William F. Mastenbrook, Jr. age 92, of Spring Lake passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017. He was born October 29, 1924 in Grand Rapids to William, Sr. and Lavina (Buys) Mastenbrook. On June 14, 1947 he married Elizabeth Alfulitis and she preceded him in death on June 22, 2016.
William was a member of Ferrysburg Community Church. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran where he served in the US Navy and was one of the first to land on the beaches of Normandy, France and Sicily, North Africa. William was a former member of the Grand Haven Eagles 925, the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28, and a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his three sons, William Mastenbrook, III, of Spring Lake, Michael (Janet) Mastenbrook of Muskegon, and Donald (Nancy) Mastenbrook of Muskegon; seven grandchildren: William “Brooks” (Lisa) Mastenbrook IV, Tim (Holly) Mastenbrook, Laura (Josh Bochenek) Mastenbrook, Heather Mastenbrook, Adam (Nicole) Mastenbrook, Michael Mastenbrook, Jr, and Eric Mastenbrook; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Ankelen. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julianne Mastenbrook in 1998; two sisters, Betty Roosien, and Jean Suits; brother-in-law, Harold “Mike” (Thelma) Alfulitis.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Ferrysburg Community Church with Rev. Nate Visker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
