William "Deacon Bill" McCabe's Obituary
William J. McCabe “Deacon Bill” passed away peacefully Sunday evening, February 5, 2017 at his home. He was born February 3, 1930 to James and Mary (DeVille) McCabe in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Deacon Bill was a sheet metal worker in the construction business for most of his life. He was very involved with Muskegon Habitat for Humanity, had been on the Norton Shores City Council and belonged to the Mona Shores Optimist Club. He was a longtime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. On October 3, 1953, he married Margaret “Peg” LaPres, and she survives him along with 7 children, Mary (Tim) Morris, Jim McCabe, Alice McCabe, William Alan McCabe, Michelle McCabe, Richard (Carol) McCabe, Paul McCabe; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Earl (Ann) McCabe, Patrick McCabe, Michael (Adelle) McCabe; 3 sisters, Bernice (Don) Devine, Cecelia (Archie) Langlois, Joyce (Ron) Uganski. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; 2 sons, David and Tim; and 1 brother, Ellis. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 9, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM, with a prayer vigil at 4:30 PM. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
