William A. Shafer's Obituary
Mr. William A. “Shaf” Shafer, age 57, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 19, 2016 in Muskegon. He was born on July 31, 1958 in Saginaw, Michigan to Gerald and Patricia (Sparks) Shafer. Bill graduated from Arthur Hills High School, class of 1976. He was employed by Consumers Energy for 37 years before his retirement in 2014. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling and spending time with his friends at the Grand Haven Eagles. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, and loved telling stories about his adventures with Claire. On April 21, 2006, Bill married the former Sandra Lynn DeWitt and she survives him along with his daughter, Bridgett Shafer; granddaughter, Claire Elyse LaHaie; two brothers, Michael (Sabrina) Shafer and Steve Shafer; mother-in-law, Mary Ellen DeWitt; sister-in-law, Barb Holmes; brother-in-law, Mike Lyons; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Cathy Shafer; father-in-law, Howard DeWitt and sister-in-law, Gail Lyons. A CELEBRATION OF BILL’S LIFE will be held from 3:30 – 6:30 PM Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Grand Haven Eagles 925 (20 N. 2nd St.). MEMORIALS in his name may be made to Claire’s Education Fund c/o Fifth Third Bank.
