William James Stieg's Obituary
Mr. William J. “Bill” Stieg, age 84, was promoted to Heaven to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 15, 2019. He was born November 30, 1934. The only son of Leonard and Ione (Powell) Stieg, he was raised in Ravenna, MI and graduated from Ravenna High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army and served in Korea. After returning home he was very proud of earning his private pilot’s license and truly enjoyed flying. His working career started at Shaw Box Crane. Then he worked at GTE (Verizon) for 20 years in the Teletype Dept. After retiring from the phone company, he worked for his good friend, Larry Derks, at Star Crane in Allendale. Bill lived in Muskegon his adult life and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. After Bill retired, he took many mission trips to South America. He had many old cars and enjoyed going to car shows. A highlight to him was his many fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing and working in his beautiful garden. He truly enjoyed the outdoors. On February 14, 1958 Bill married Carole Thompson Stieg, and she preceded in him death on May 18, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents. On February 22, 2008 he married Linda Johnson Stieg. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Cynthia Foight of Wexford, PA and Julie (Glenn) Ray of Spring Lake, MI; granddaughters, Piper (Evan) Cullen and Abigail (Tyler) Hollingsworth, both of Wexford; great-grandson, Cooper Cullen; four sisters, Joyce (Marv) Zwiers, Cathy (Dan) Hughes, Grace Upchurch and Marge (Doug) Weiler; brother-in-law, Oakley Thompson; sister-in-law, Nancy (Fran) Kemp; brother-in-law, Mark (Tammy) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 20 at 11AM at Trinity Baptist Church (4381 S. Sheridan Dr., 49444). Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 10-11AM. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at The Hume Home and Hospice of Michigan for their loving care during the last seven months.
