William A. Langlois' Obituary
William A. (Bill) Langlois, age 82, of Norton Shores passed away peacefully at home with his family on August 15, 2006. Born August 24, 1923, to Leo J. Sr. and Helen P. (Williams) Langlois in Muskegon, MI, he married Virginia “Ginny” M. McGregor August 10, 1945, in San Francisco, CA.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Ginny and nine children: Fr. Bill, Mary Anne, Bob (Nanci), Betty Lou (Sandy Dodson), Marjorie (Charlie Tonkinson), Leo (Sally), Nancy (Matt Matthews), Laurie (Randy Mergener), and Dan (Nikki McRoberts). Brothers and sisters include Dorothy Moran, Robert (Kathy) Langlois, Gerald (Gwen) Langlois, Louis (Phyllis) Langlois, Helen (Monte) Tietsort, Lois (Ed) Lynch, Ray (Sandra) Langlois, and many nieces & nephews. He leaves 23 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Leo Jr. and sister Marcella and his parents Leo Sr. and Helen P. (Williams) Langlois, also 2 grandchildren Robert Jr. and Christine Dodson.
Bill founded Langlois Stores in 1947. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and was captain of the football team. Bill was in the U.S. Navy, in WWII, serving on the U.S.S. Hunt. He and Ginny wintered in Naples Florida; Bill was an avid golfer.
Bill was a strong supporter of Teen Challenge, active in local, civic, and religions organizations. He was past president and Michigan district governor of Serra Club (to foster Catholic vocations). He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church, St. Michaels of Coopersville, and most recently, St. Patrick’s Church in Grand Haven.
Visitation is at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. William Langlois as celebrant. Memorials may be made to Right to Life of Michigan, Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana (recently changed to Harbor Hospice), Muskegon Catholic Central High School or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
