William "Bill" W. Munch's Obituary
William “Bill” W. Munch, age 74, of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at a Muskegon hospital. He was born on November 2, 1934 to Nicholas William and Margaret (Bechowski) Munch in Chicago, IL. Bill married the former Pauline Klumpel on June 29, 1957 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He then remarried Patricia Smith on December 11, 1992. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2005.
A lifelong resident of Grand Haven, Bill graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1954, and was a starting player of the “Bucs” undefeated football team in 1953. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Bill worked at Bastian Blessing for many years, where he served as a union officer, until they closed. He then started his own business, Continental Installation, until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 and the Eagles F.O.E. Aerie #925, where he served as secretary.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Barbara North and Pamela Olthof, both of Grand Haven; one grandchild, Kimberly Kaiser; two great-grandchildren, MackAnna and Jaelynne; also a sister, Margaret (Allen) Steffen of Grand Haven; and sister-in-law, Connie Munch of Grand Haven; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, and a brother Nicholas.
The service for Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Friends may meet the family 5-8 PM on Tuesday, May 26, at the funeral home in Grand Haven. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Interment will be in the Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bill’s name to Disciples for Christ Church or the Eagles F.O.E. Aerie #925 are appreciated.
