William G. Appel's Obituary
William G. Appel, age 77, of Walkerville and formerly of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at a local care facility. He was born June 16, 1930, in Robinson Township to Joseph and Helen (Weitz) Appel, and he married the former Frances Goodin on October 12, 1991, in Robinson Township. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2005.
Mr. Appel lived most of his life in the Tri-Cities area and was formerly employed as an equipment operator. He was known for his musical talent and enjoyed playing the accordion and numerous other instruments, a legacy he passed on to his children. He also loved to fish for Bluegills and Trout, and he had a deep love for the outdoors.
Survivors include three daughters: Sharon Roberts of Spring Lake, Donna McCulloch of Spring Lake, and Terri (Terry) Keith of Gilmer, Texas; a son, Bill (Pat) Appel of Walkerville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann McGregor and Emily (Dave) Harden, both of Grand Haven; and two brothers, Peter (Carol) Appel of Grand Haven and Nick Appel of Walkerville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fran; a granddaughter, Shawn Marie McCulloch; a grandson, William D. Appel, Jr.; three sisters; and five brothers.
The service for Mr. Appel will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Gail Ellis officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials to the family are appreciated.
