William Henry Harris' Obituary
Mr. William Henry Harris, age 92, died Easter Sunday evening, March 27, 2005, in Muskegon. He was born September 10, 1912 in Cleveland, OH to Henry and Edla (Chiverton) Harris before moving to Muskegon at the age of 10. He and his family then moved to St. Ignace for a time, before returning to and residing in Muskegon. He was a graduate of Muskegon High School and attended Muskegon College and the Muskegon School of Business. Bill had been employed 30 years at Teledyne Continental Motors before retiring in 1972, as their purchasing agent. He was an active member of the former Eastlawn Reformed Church and then became a charter member of Westwood Reformed Church. He has served as an Elder, Deacon, Vice-president of the Consistory, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, choir member, youth group leader, drama coach and participant. Bill was also active in Scouting and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 14 and then later serving on its Board of Directors. He enjoyed golfing and loved being a volunteer at Hackley Hospital. SURVIVORS include his wife, the former Isabelle Shepherd, whom he married March 1, 1934; 3 children, Dr. W. Richard (Joyce) Harris of Fruitport, Susanne (C. Richard) Borgeson of Muskegon and Rosemary (Thomas) Dobb of Greenville, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. SERVICES will be 11 AM Thursday at Westwood Reformed Church (3025 Glenside Blvd.) with the Rev. David Willerup officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION with Bill’s family will be 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.
