William L. "Bill" Smith's Obituary
Mr. William L. “Bill” Smith, age 89, died Friday morning, August 12, 2005. He was born February 24, 1916 in Johnstown, PA to Samuel and Ann (Hoerle) Smith and had been a resident of the Muskegon area for most of his life. Mr. Smith was a 1934 graduate of Muskegon High School and a graduate of the University of Michigan. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. For 35 years, he worked for Teledyne Continental Motors Company before retiring. On August 24, 1940, he married the former Arleen Obenauf in Muskegon. Mr. Smith leaves his family with fond memories of the Big Blue Lake cottage, where he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and sailing. SURVIVORS include his wife, Arleen; 7 children, Janet Berg, Becky (Vern) Goosen, Pat (Chuck) Woods, Kathy (Roger) Middag, Jerry (Brenda) Smith, Susan (Jim) Broadbent all of the Muskegon area, Cindy (Joe) Meyers of Rogers, Arkansas; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betti A. Smith. A PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Hackley VNS, Bob and Merle Scolnik Hospice House, 888 Terrace St., Muskegon, MI 49440.
