Mrs. Wilma J. Evans (Willi)'s Obituary
Mrs. Willi J. Evans, age 80, passed away Wednesday morning, August 19, 2020. She was born on August 26, 1939 to William and Beulah (Rupert) Vanderlaan in Georgetown, MI. She moved to West Michigan where she has lived most of her life. She graduated from Fruitport Adult Ed class of 75’. On June 30, 1956, she married Bernard Evans Sr and together they cherished almost 63 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2019. She worked for 8 years as a salesclerk at Bush’s Studio, but also held other careers. Willi worked side by side with her husband for 14 years at B. Evans Garbage Service and also worked with her daughter, Jeanne at Three Wishes Toy Store. She was a longtime member of the Ravenna American Legion Auxiliary Post #297 where she held many positions. While her children were growing up, she was a proud den mother, room mother and girl scout leader. She was also a Sunday school teacher at the Olivet Reformed Church for many years. Willi will also be remembered as being the local children’s cab driver! She was the most giving, caring, and loving person you could know; going out of her way to help anyone who was in need; she was the best, truly one of a kind. Willi will truly be missed by her children, Bernie Jr., Jim and Nancy, Jeff and Milva, and Jeanne; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; 2 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Bernard Evans Sr; finally reunited together in peace. A Celebration of Willi’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a collection in Willi’s honor for the Alzheimer’s Association will be held during the service. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E.
