Mrs. Wilma Jeanne Swartz-Zulauf's Obituary
Mrs. Wilma Jeanne Swartz-Zulauf, age 90, passed away Wednesday morning, July 6, 2016. Wilma was born March 8, 1926 in Marshfield, OR to H. Dewey, DDS and Gladys K. (Rapp) Wilson. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Oregon in 1948, and her Master’s degree in Music (Piano) from the University of Michigan in 1950. Wilma was a certified music teacher through the National Association for Certified Teachers. She taught music since moving to this area in 1951. Wilma was a member of Forest Park Covenant Church where she served as Women’s President, Church Board Secretary, and on the Diaconate. Wilma was active in church missions, traveling and teaching in Kenya. She also had memberships and positions in the P.E.O. Sisterhood-CS, and the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs. Wilma received the Teacher of the Year Award in 1990 and 1997 from the GMMTA. She was also listed in Who’s Who in American Women. Wilma also enjoyed traveling, sewing and photography. On September 2, 1950 she married Allan Ernest Swartz and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. Wilma then married Dr. Dwight J. Zulauf on June 26, 2011 and he survives her. She is also survived by her children, Ted (Christena Rath-Swartz) Swartz of Chicago, IL, Dawn (Jim Windak) Swartz of Ann Arbor, MI, Tim (Kris) Swartz of Norway, IA, and Amanda (Herb) Williams of Phoenix, AZ; stepchildren, Kathryn (Geoffrey, MD) Harris, MD, Dr. David (Shelli) Zulauf, John (Beth) Zulauf; 19 grandchildren, Chrissy, Max, Trisha, Erika, Jessica, Noah, Andy, Karl, Ashley, Blake, Adrian, Erin, Zoe, Gavin, Joshua, Ellen, Nathan, and Shawn; one great-grandchild, Braiden, and one on the way, Jacob Allan; a sister-in-law, Gloria Wilson of Medford, OR; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her baby sister and her brother, H. Dewey ll. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Monday, July 11, 2016 at Forest Park Covenant Church, 3815 Henry St. Visitation will be Sunday, July 10, 2016, from 2-6 PM at the Walburn Chapel, 1547 W.
