Winifred A. Lipka's Obituary
Winifred Alice Lipka, a devoted mother, beloved educator, and compassionate friend, passed away on January 22, 2026 in Montague, MI at the age of 95. She lived a life marked by kindness, curiosity, and a deep commitment to caring for others.
She pursued her passion for education by earning her teaching degree from Ohio University, a foundation that launched a meaningful career as an elementary school teacher. Following the deaths of her parents in her mid-twenties, Winnie moved to Montague, where she built a life rooted in love and community. There, she married Don Lipka, with whom she shared companionship, support, and many meaningful moments together.
For many years, Winnie served as an elementary school teacher, where she shaped young minds with patience, warmth, and encouragement. Teaching was more than a profession to her—it was a calling. She believed in her students, celebrated their progress, and left a lasting imprint on countless lives through her dedication and steady guidance.
Outside the classroom, Winnie found joy in the simple and meaningful things. She loved gardening, finding peace and purpose in nurturing growing things. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, where cooking was an expression of love and hospitality. She had a natural way of caring for others, always attentive, thoughtful, and generous with her time. Later in life, Winnie also treasured the weekly lunch outings with her long-time friends.
Winnie also enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, and she took a keen interest in the stock market and personal finances, staying informed and engaged well into her later years. Her curiosity and eagerness to learn were lifelong traits that reflected her sharp mind and independent spirit.
Above all, Winnie leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and quiet strength that will continue through all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children: Chris (Michele) Lipka, Kurt (Val) Lipka, and Summer (Darryl) Williams; seven grandchildren: Sarah (Kevin) Walkotten, Desi (Dan) Klein, Carson (Anna) Williams, Collin Williams, Shelby Lipka, Caleb Williams, and Christopher Williams; and great-grandchildren, Ansley Klein, Isaac Klein, and Gavin Walkotten . She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Bill Duiker. Winnie is lovingly remembered by extended family, friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives were better because of her.
Per Winifred’s wishes no public services are being held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Harbor Hospice Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Whitehall Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 816 S Mears Ave, Whitehall, MI, 49461.
