Mrs. Winifred "Wini" D. Baker's Obituary
Mrs. Winifred Donna (Zayaz) Baker, age 87, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2014 at an area nursing home. Wini was born May 26, 1926 to Joseph Sr. and Clara Marie (Rose) Zayaz in Muskegon, MI. On February 27, 1947, she married Juane Arthur Baker and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2007. She lived her entire life in the Muskegon area. She attended Muskegon Heights Public Schools until 1944. Wini received her high school diploma from Orchard View Community Schools in 1988. She had been employed at Sealed Power, Grossman’s Department Store, and retired from Johnson Technology in 1991. Wini was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. In addition to her husband, Juane, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers; Joseph Zayaz Jr; nephew, Joseph Zayaz III; and grandson, Marcus Joseph Baker. She is SURVIVED by her children, Karen (Gary) Tornga of Muskegon and James (Carla) Baker of Thompsonville, MI; her grandchildren, Gregory (Dr. Jessica Horsfall) Tornga of Kirkland, Washington, Peter (Rachael) Tornga of Muskegon, Jeffrey (Jennifer ) Tornga of Hudsonville, MI, Mara (Nick) Bihler of Grand Rapids, MI, Jesse (Kristina) Baker of Interlochen, MI and Rebecca (Kevin) Baker-Palazzola of Batavia, IL; great-grandchildren, Rylan, Cole, Quinn and Owen Tornga, Kole Baker, Eleanor Palazzola and Baby Bihler on the way; sisters, Clara (Robert) Cook of Muskegon and Thelma Wainwright of Ionia; her brother, Douglas (Barbara) Zayaz of Muskegon; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Baker and Donna Baker of Muskegon, Helen Zayaz of Spring Lake, and Shirley Koekoek of Grand Haven; and many nieces and nephews. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 930 Creston St., with Pastor Julie Winklepleck officiating. VISITATION will be Friday from 5-7:00 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210 and one hour prior to the service (1-2:00 PM) at the church. Interment will be made in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS in Wini’s memory may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
