Yvonne E. Szot's Obituary
Mrs. Yvonne E. Szot, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 8, 1930 in Traverse City to John and Margaret (Groesser) Ziegler and moved to Muskegon in 1949. Yvonne married Theodore Szot on June 2, 1951 at St. Joseph Church in Muskegon and he preceded her in death in 1972. Yvonne was involved with Friends of Frauenthal, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Vikings Lodge, Women’s Division Chamber of Commerce, State Employees Retirees Assn, and Red Hat Society. She retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1993. Yvonne is survived by her children, Mudgi (Jim) Cavender and John (Michelle) Szot; grandchildren, Joe Grelewicz (Jen), Julie Grelewicz (Jeff Woirol), TJ (Lauren) Szot, and Toni Szot-Snyder (Troy); nine great-grandchildren with one more expected in September; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Yvonne was also preceded in death by her parents and special friend, Ray Stralko. Per Yvonne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Yvonne’s memory may be directed to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Jewel’s Zoo Crew team, mailed to Metro-Detroit/SE MI Chapter, 24359 Northwestern Highway #125 Southfield, MI, 48075).
