Yvonne Ann Vogel's Obituary
Yvonne A. Vogel, age 90, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, surrounded by her family. Yvonne was born to Otto and Bertha (Randles) Wiltenburg on August 17, 1934, in Ravenna, Michigan. Yvonne graduated from Muskegon High School in 1952. She went on to work as a manager for Walgreen’s restaurants before finding her calling working as a teacher’s aide at Oakridge Elementary School. Yvonne was a fixture at Oakridge schools for many years, helping in 2nd-grade classrooms until her retirement in June of 1994. On March 31, 1964, Yvonne married her husband, J. Curtis Vogel. Curt preceded Yvonne in death in 1992. Yvonne was involved in her community throughout her life, acting as a seamstress for just about everyone in the Wolf Lake area. In her later years, she was a member of the Golden Eagles of Wolf Lake Senior Center. Through the Golden Eagles, she volunteered at the schools serving popcorn on Fridays, and took advantage of her Golden Eagle Sports Pass attending Oakridge High School’s sporting events. Yvonne was what her family would consider the “best cook and baker in the world” and kept an extensive recipe book to pass down to her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener as well and had a special love for fresh flowers. She enjoyed reading and could plow through a stack of James Patterson mysteries or steamy romance novels. She always had a good book recommendation and traded books back and forth with friends and family. Yvonne adored her grandchildren and was especially excited to welcome her first great-grandchild into the world. The time she spent with her grandchildren was precious, especially the Tuesdays spent playing Skip-Bo with her granddaughter, Kendall.
Yvonne will be missed by her daughter Kathryn B. Vogel; grandchildren, Kendall Yvonne Vogel and John Curtis Gallegos; soon-to-be great-grandson; dedicated and loving sister, Charlene Plumpton; and special friend Beverly Johnson. Yvonne is preceded in death by her husband, J. Curtis Vogel; siblings, Robert Wiltenburg, Delores Raab, Arlene Wright, and Barbara Smithe-Shook; and lifelong friend, Pat Williams.
A graveside service will take place at 2:30 pm on March 28th, 2025, at Egelston Cemetery, 5762 Evanston Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Charlene Plumpton who never left Yvonne's side and the Leila and Cyrus Poppen Residence Team for the excellent care they gave Yvonne. Memorial donations may be made to Harbor Hospice in honor of Yvonne.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave. Muskegon, Michigan. Share memories with the family at sytsemafh.com.
