Alan "Al" Bohland's Obituary
Mr. Alan “Al” Bohland, age 80, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at his home. He was born on May 12, 1935 in Muskegon to Phillip and Lulu (Stone) Bohland, and resided in the area all of his life. Al worked for the City of Norton Shores Fire Department prior to working for the Department of Public Works for 37 years, before retiring in 1995. Al was an Eagle Scout, he volunteered for the Norton Shores Fire Department Canteen 450, and was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years. On September 19, 1995 he married the former Cheryl Nicolai, and she survives him along with daughter, Julie Betka; sons, Greg Bohland, Bill (Marie) Payne, Carl Payne and Lorraine Smith; 16 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elwin, William and Dale Bohland; and sisters, Phyllis Schmidt, Lucille Ross and Beverly Singleton. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 6PM Friday, January 29 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Jerry Hagans officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 4-6PM Friday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Muskegon Elk Scholarship Fund or the Muskegon Governmental Employees F.C.U.
