I just wanted to leave a quick note to let you know how much I appreciated working with Al over the years. I'm a social worker at the Community Mental Health agency for Berrien County. Over the past 10 years before he retired from the SSA, I worked with Al on many cases and projects and he was always a joy to work with. He was patient and kind even when having to repeat information multiple times, because he new the regulations better than anyone. He is very much missed and his service and kindness very much appreciated and I will always consider myself blessed for having known him. I didn't know Alan for a long period of time, but will miss him very much. He tried to keep a positive outlook, and never complained about how he felt even when I knew he was feeling bad. We are saddened to hear of Al’s suffering and death. We left Benton Harbor in 1981 and lost contact with Al but remember him fondly as an outstanding instructor and conscientious worker who paid particular attention to detail.
