Alice M. VanRiper's Obituary
Mrs. Alice M. VanRiper, age 99, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Hume Home. She was born on January 10, 1914 to William and Edith (Taylor) Jackson in Muskegon. She became a member of McGraft Memorial Congregational Church in 1929 and was always very active. Alice had worked as a hearing and vision technician at Muskegon County Health Department for 20 years. She then owned the Beltone Hearing Aid business prior to her retiring in 1980. Alice volunteered at Hackley Hospital and was involved with the Muskegon Woman’s Club. In her free time she enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and playing cards. For 20 years Alice enjoyed her time wintering in Brookfield, FL. In 1953 Alice hosted an exchange student, Lothar Kopp from Germany and has always kept in contact through the years. On August 1, 1936 she married Kenneth VanRiper and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1995. SURVIVORS include 1 son, Ralph (Delores “Dee”) VanRiper; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at McGraft Congregational Church on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mark Nieuwsma officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior. MEMORIALS to McGraft Congregational Church or Harbor Hospice would be appreciated. BURIAL will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
