Andrew "Andy" Groenhout's Obituary
Mr. Andrew “Andy” Groenhout, age 93 of Grand Haven passed away Monday, September 21, 2020. He was born April 5, 1927 in Grand Rapids to Edward and Johanna (Stooistra) Groenhout. On December 11, 1981 he married Cora Van Arkel.
Andy was a member of First Reformed Church of Grand Haven. He enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, boating, reading, taking care of his cars, he was known as “Handy Andy” who could fix anything, he was always whistling and was a listening ear. He enjoyed camping with his family years ago in his renovated bus. He owned and operated Greenwood Dairy and Greenwood Box Shop in Grand Rapids. He then went on to work at Laser Alignment in Grand Rapids and following that he worked for Rycenga Homes. Andy served his country in the US Navy and was proud of his service. He was a people person who loved his family and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cora; four children: Linda (Ed) Cotts, of Hudsonville, Barbie (Phil) Koeze of Coopersville, Dan (Joan) Groenhout of Grand Haven, and Sally (John) Stewart of Saranac; step-children: Carol (Jim) Schmidt, Judy (John) Parsons, James Van Arkel and wife, Nancy Anderson, Tom (Karen) Van Arkel; 19 loving grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and also by his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Groenhout and Leona Heybloem. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy Groenhout; daughter-in-law, Joyce Groenhout; the mother of his children, Jeanne Groenhout; sister, Edith (Harold) Lanning; brothers, Stuart (Julia), Richard (Jo), Edward (Phyllis) and Albert Groenhout.
All are invited to a visitation for Andy from 2-4 PM Sunday, September 27, 2020 at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Covid 19 restrictions and masks will be required. There will be a private family funeral due to Covid 19. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery with military honors to follow.
