Our dad, Ziggy, called him his best friend. The two of them had a standing bet each year, Tigers vs. Red Sox, and both families enjoyed following its progress through the baseball seasons. He had a great laugh and never failed to get our mom, Josephine, laughing with him. We, the kids, have many fond memories of Mr. Zambetis. He was Tom’s first Cub Scout leader. I, David, remember a time when he pulled a sliver out of my hand when my dad wasn’t around, first sterilizing a needle with a cigarette lighter. Dan recalls a time when Mr. and Mrs. Z stopped by unannounced and our mom and dad were frantically trying to unplug the only toilet in the house – and to clean up the accompanying mess! Mr. and Mrs. Z left, laughing, saying it reminded them too much of their own home. Summers at his beloved Loon Lake. Picnics at Camp Dearborn. Marathon games of 31 with the Curley and Pawelski families. He was proud of his Greek heritage, strong, happy, caring – and just plain fun to be around. In short, he was a great role model, a wonderful influence and we’re blessed to call him part of our ‘extended’ family. With deepest sympathies to all his children and grandchildren.
