Arnold DeWitt's Obituary
Arnold Warren DeWitt, age 79, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, January 13, 2006. He was born June 5, 1926 to Robert and Lorene (Beekman) DeWitt in Grand Haven, MI; and he married Louise Grzyb Velik on July 7, 1949 in Grand Haven. Mr. DeWitt served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific serving in the Philippines and Japan and he was awarded the Silver Star. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1982. Mr. DeWitt was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the American Legion-Charles Conklin Post 28 and the Sgt. Alvin Jonker-VFW Post 2326. He enjoyed gardening and word scramble puzzles. Survivors include his wife Louise; three daughters, Janice (Glenn) Thompson of Seattle, WA, Denise (Ron) Nuismer of Portage, MI, Nancy (Dana) Carlson of Grand Rapids, MI; a son Michael (fiancé Penni Payne) DeWitt of Grand Haven; eight grandchildren; a sister Donna (David) Shaw of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Hockenbraugh of Grand Haven and Fran DeWitt of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah Watts and Patricia Leslie, and two brothers, Bob and Gordon DeWitt. A funeral liturgy for Arnold W. DeWitt will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. William Langlois as celebrant. Military rites will be provided under the auspices of the American Legion-Charles Conklin Post 28. Friends may meet the family 2-4 p.m. Sunday afternoon at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
