Arthur E. Ruiter's Obituary
Arthur E. Ruiter, age 88, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, into the everlasting arms of his Creator on June 1, 2020. For 60 years, he shared his life and adventures with his beloved wife, Carole Ruiter, whom he frequently described as “wonderful” and “the best.”
An Army veteran, Art spent his life in service to God and others. Early in his career, he advocated for the empowerment and rights of disabled people, including independent housing, meaningful work, and fair wages. This work of advocacy and empowerment extended to people of color, immigrant refugees, the poor, the incarcerated, the sick, and the elderly, truly fulfilling Christ’s charge to “love thy neighbor.” His exemplary service also extended to people and organizations with whom he worked and volunteered, including recent dynamic service on the Second Christian Reformed Church Council, at Christian Haven, Love in Action, and International Aid.
He is survived by his wife Carole; his four children: Pamela (Steve), Jeff (Lisa), David, and Amy (Jameson); eleven grandchildren: Anders, Mahilet, Joshua (Candice), Zachary (Hali), Seth (Kara), Joel, Anna, Catherine, Lydia (Jordan), Samuel (Allison), and Jameson; sisters Idelle and Joyce (Jerry), and numerous nephews and nieces. Art’s grandchildren remember him fondly for his joy in work and service, dedicated car washing, and devotion to Scripture and prayer.
A special thanks to Doctors McAree, Divic, Vander Heide, and Pettijohn, and the entire Hospice staff and Comfort Keepers for their compassionate care.
Due to COVID 19, private services will be held. Memorial contributions in memory of Art may be given to Second Christian Reformed Church (Grand Haven), and Christian Haven Home. Please sign the family's online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
