Barbara J. DeHorn's Obituary
Mrs. Barbara J. DeHorn, age 72, passed away at home on July 12, 2013. She was born on April 28, 1941 to Abraham and Margaret (Green) Hartsema in Muskegon, MI; and has lived in this area for all but six years of her life. On June 15, 1961, she married Paul DeHorn. Barb attended Forest Park Covenant Church and was very involved in the children’s ministry as well as the Women’s Bible Study. Barb was the director of McGraft Preschool for 14 years; and taught at Campbell Elementary in Mona Shores for 16 years. She and Paul enjoyed spending their summers boating on Lake Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan and had attended MICHIGAN football games for over 40 years. She also attended Western Michigan University for her master’s degree. Barb was a member of PEO and Alpha Delta Kappa and volunteered for the Frauenthal Theater and Muskegon Heritage Museum. Barb had 9 very lucky grandchildren and spent a great deal of time in Livonia, Chicago and Bloomfield Hills visiting and watching them participate in all their activities. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Paul; her 3 children, Cyndi Settecerri of Bloomfield Hills, David (Claire) DeHorn of Glenview, IL and Steven (Allison) DeHorn of Livonia; 9 grandchildren, Lauren, Andrew and Daniel Settecerri, Sydney, Annika and Makensie DeHorn, Drew, Noah and Will DeHorn; brother, Robert Hartsema and partner, Steven Dimoff of Washington DC; sisters, Ginger (Bill) Hill of Portage, Kathy (Phillip) Novak of New Orleans; sisters-in-law, Mildred DeHorn of St. Joseph and Marilyn DeHorn of Grand Rapids, several nieces and nephews and cousins. VISITATION with Barb’s family will be 5-8 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444, 231-798-1100. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Barb will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Forest Park Covenant Church (3815 Henry Street, Muskegon, MI 49441) with Pastors Wally Coots and Shelly Kurth officiating. For a more lasting memorial, please consider the “Every Child a Camper” fund at Forest Park Covenant Church.
