Ben E. Mathews' Obituary
Mr. Ben E. Mathews, age 78, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 11, 1934 in Muskegon to Charles and Desdy (Tomblson) Mathews, and resided in the area all of his life. Ben was a Veteran of the National Guard, and a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He worked at Shaw Walker for 37 years, before retiring in 1988. Ben enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and camping but most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. On September 22, 1956 he married the former Marlene Heimann, and she survives him along with 3 children, Jill (Kevin) Brueck, Larry (Tammie) Mathews, and Michael (Stacey) Mathews all of Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Melissa (Aaron) Burns, Michael (Kara Homoly) Brueck, Clinton (Cassidi Lamain) Mathews; and 2 great grandchildren, Briahna and Jaxson Burns; brother, Stanley Louis (Margaret) Mathews of Muskegon; and sister, Della Scott also of Muskegon. Ben was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 5 sisters. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11AM Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (1132 W. Southern) with Rev. John “Jack” Ferra officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8PM Tuesday (this evening) at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 and 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM.
