Benjamin R. Jones' Obituary
Benjamin Robert Jones, age 30, tragically passed away and was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 in Royal Oak. He was born on August 10, 1990 in Kalamazoo, MI to Bruce and Theresa Jones. Ben attended Muskegon Catholic Central schools, graduating in 2009, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. He continued his football career at Hillsdale College and graduated in 2013 with his Bachelor of Science in Financial Management and a minor in Mathematics. He then moved to Royal Oak, MI and began working at Schwartz and Co Investment Advisors as a Portfolio Manager and Financial Planner. Ben’s love of football evolved from playing to coaching as he became an assistant varsity football coach at Cranbrook Kingswood in Bloomfield Hills, from 2015-2018. In June of 2019, Cranbrook Kingswood announced that Ben would become the Crane’s Varsity Football Head Coach. He went on to lead his team to a playoff berth. Ben will be greatly missed by his parents, Dr. Bruce and Theresa; siblings, Alissa Jones (fiancé, Colby Lufkin) and Nathaniel Jones; maternal grandparents, Robert and Judith Doerr; paternal grandmother, Sally Jones; aunts and uncles, Robert (Chris) Doerr, Dr. Timothy (Patti) Doerr, Christine Doerr, Michael (Karin) Doerr, Andrew (Dawn) Doerr, Daniel Doerr, Sue (Alan) Kastl and Thomas Jones Jr; many cousins; and Godchildren, Miles and Hannah. He was also blessed with many friends, mentors, and teammates. Ben was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Thomas Jones Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Monday, August 24 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St., 49441) with Fr. Charles Hall presiding. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, August 23 from 5-8 PM at the church with a Scripture Service at 7PM and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. A memorial service will be held at Cranbrook Schools later in the week with details forthcoming. The family requests that guests please be considerate of occupancy limitations at the visitation and Mass due to COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial contributions to be directed to Muskegon Catholic Education Foundation, Hillsdale College, or Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
