Bernadine Anne Gates' Obituary
Bernadine Anne Gates, age 79, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 26, 1943 in Muskegon to John R. and Anne G. (Cherney) O’Donnell and was a lifelong resident of the area. On September 3, 1982, she married Daryle Lee Gates in Muskegon. Bernie earned two bachelor’s degrees – a Bachelor of Chemistry from Western Michigan University and a Bachelor of Nursing from Grand Valley State University. She worked nearly 40 years in nursing and retired from Hackley Hospital in 2012 after 25 years of service. She was raised at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had also been a member at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Daryle L. Gates; 2 children, Thomas (Barbara) Gates, Sarah (Jeff) Cunningham; 5 grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mary Savanick. A Private Service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
