For those of us who worked with Bette in her career at Grand Valley State, especially Geology faculty and students of those years, we express our sincere sympathy to her family and loved ones. Bette brought cheer to the department, kept the faculty in line, solved work problems, and steered the departmental ship. Those of us who chaired the department at one time or another valued Bette's secretarial skills and office guidance. But most of all, we valued her friendship.
