Carl H. Olson's Obituary
Carl H. Olson, age 76, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023. He was born on June 3, 1946 to Herbert and Margaret (Holm) Olson in Muskegon. After graduating from Muskegon Heights in 1965, Carl served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Kathryn Olson on October 3, 1970. Carl worked 40 years at Sappi Paper Company in various departments like shipping, finishing, and the store room. Following retirement in 2009, he was a part-time porter at Betten-Baker for many years. Besides working, Carl’s main focus was his family. He loved spending time with them, helping with projects like building decks, sheds, and remodeling. Additionally, he loved attending sporting events and other activities of which his children and grandchildren were a part. The people who knew Carl best will always remember him for his love and loyalty to family and friends, his amazing work ethic, his meticulous attention to detail, his unmatched sense of humor, and his commitment to a bar stool beside friends. Carl was a member of the Vikings, a lifetime member of the VFW 446, and former member of Samuel Lutheran church. Carl is survived by his wife Kathy along with their children, Karla (Sean Carr) Cheatum and Craig (Beth) Olson; 4 grandchildren, Jaden, Gavin, Oliver, and Charlie; sister, Karen Shields and brother-in-law, Dick (Laura) Connell. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Roy Shields, and very close cousin, Bruce Rundquist. CELEBRATION OF LIFE and MILITARY HONORS will be held at the Vikings Lodge in Muskegon (3132 Lakeshore Dr.) on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, MEMORIALS can be directed to the Ruthann Matthew’s Vikings Scholarship Fund or Muskegon County Department of Veteran Affairs.
