Carly Margaret Lockwood's Obituary
Carly Margaret Lockwood (Buter), age 35, passed away unexpectedly at her home Saturday, August 12, 2023. She was born January 13, 1988 in Muskegon, Michigan to Randy and Cheryl (Greene) Buter. Carly married her loving husband and soulmate, Randy Lockwood, on November 3, 2006. Together they had two children, Kaiden James Lockwood and Coralynn Renae Lockwood. Carly graduated from Fruitport High School in 2006. After graduation she left Michigan and traveled the country supporting Randy who served in the United States Army. In 2019 they returned to Michigan where she worked as an assistant manager at New Standard in Nunica, MI. “Gnarly” Carly was a mama bear when it came to her husband, children and friends. She always tried to carry everyone else’s burdens for them and always put their needs before her own. She would travel cross country to be with a friend in need. She accepted and loved everyone for who they were. Carly was in her element when she was out in nature tending to her flowers and plants and she loved all animals and would take them all in. She was best known for her quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and stubborn but generous and loving spirit. She was a strong-willed cancer survivor. Her bright light and spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her husband, Randy, along with their children, Kaiden, age 15, and Coralynn, age 10; parents, Randy and Cheryl Buter, Ken and Laurie Lockwood; sisters, Heidi Buter, Jana (Mark) Bragg; nieces and nephews, Madeline, Cameron, Elissa, Brianna, Heidi, Molly, Caleb; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and “her person” special lifelong friend, Amy Jo. To honor and celebrate Carly’s memory, we are holding a celebration of her life, which will be announced at a later date. We invite anyone who knew her to attend and remember her wonderful life and ask attendees to wear bright colors. MEMORIALS can be directed to the PPB/DICER1 Registry at Children’s Minnesota Foundation or by mail to Children’s Minnesota Foundation (Attn: Tribute Gifts, 5901 Lincoln Dr, Mailstop: CBC-3-FOUN, Edina, MN 55436. Checks would be payable to Children’s Minnesota Foundation, memo line: Carly Lockwood). Carly was diagnosed with an extremely rare gene mutation called DICER1 in 2021 which caused her childhood cancer. She was the 34th person to join the registry. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Share memories with the family at http://www.sytsemafh.com
