My times as a kid in Michigan {4th grade through high school} -- my summers spent there, were just the most wonderful memories. Staying at Grandma and Grandpa VanderWerp's on Walnut Street and then always getting a few weekends to stay at Auntie Carol's. She spoiled me. I remember she took me out for my first banana split when she lived on Cottonwood. It was so good. She showed me her love of animals in the way she cared for her pets. Her first, I believe was a rescue named "Mitzi". I was just a little kid when she lived in Coloma. One weekend when our family was visiting, I have a vidid memory of her. I can remember watching her on a Saturday morning putting on her perfectly placed black eyeliner in the bathroom {it is an art--you ladies know what I am saying!}. She told me, "I do Mitzi eyes too" {wink}. I said, "what?" She was right, Mitzi's eyes looked like she had black eyeliner around her eyes also. She had a fun sense of humor (dry!). I loved watching Auntie Carol bake and eating her delicious creations (black cherry chocolate cake!}. I loved how she loved her kids....my cousins. She loved the holidays and hosting us over. She also was an encourager to me...my entire life. I will never forget her kindness or investment of time in me. When I was at summer camp, she always wrote to me. When I was at church missions as a kid, she always wrote to me. She always sent us cards to let us know she was thinking of us. My Mother's younger sister will be greatly missed. I praise God that she is with Him and reunited with my Mom and her parents and my Dad. The world's greatest "coffee break" has just gotten bigger. If I close my eyes, I can hear Auntie Carol playing and singing this on the piano...{with all the extra fun notes added in with her talent} ..."Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace; In the mansions bright and blessed, He'll prepare for us a place. When we all get to Heaven...what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we'll sing and shout the victory!" - with love from niece, Margie Pastoor Doorn
