Catherine Alice Wetzel's Obituary
Catherine “Cathy” Alice Wetzel (Blumenauer) was born in Frederick, Maryland to Albert and Catherine (Taylor) Blumenauer on August 17, 1943.
Cathy was the mother of Virginia and Susan. A grandmother of five and a great grandmother of three.
She was a member of the Frederick High School National Honor Society and the band, where she met her future husband, Frank, and the two married in 1963.
When she graduated, she joined the Atomic Energy Department, which would become the Department of Energy. She later transferred to Fort Detrict Chemical and Biological Warfare Department, where she had top secret clearance. In 1977, she started a business where she would update trucking tariffs.
Cathy loved boating, water skiing, tennis and golf. She was a co-founder of the Aurora Shores Tennis Club and took home many trophies.
Cathy was a special person and will be loved and missed by many.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 27, 2026, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Burial will take place at Norton Cemetery. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at https://www.sytsemafh.com.
