Cecil W. Garvey's Obituary
Mr. Cecil W. Garvey, age 79, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at home. He was born March 3, 1931 in Muskegon to Harley and Rita (McClain) Garvey, and resided in the area all of his life. Cecil retired from Bennett Pump after 40 years service. He was a member and Board Chair of Muskegon Church of the Brethren. Cecil was the lead singer of his own band called “The Country Guitars”. On September 17, 1977, he married the former Lana Johnson, and she survives him along with 5 children, Kathy (Gordon) Colburn, Janet (Rick) Venne, Jim Garvey, Wendy (Tim) Kantola and Bill (Tami) Munford all of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; sister, Judy Ferris; 2 brothers, Bill Garvey and Alan (Shirley) Garvey; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-laws, Vivian Garvey, Norma Garvey, Sandy Coon and brother-in-law, Earl (Gayle) Johnson; lots of special friends; and special companion, his dog Samantha Jo. Cecil was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 1PM Monday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Pastor Bill Naill officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-5 PM Sunday. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions to the family will be appreciated.
