Charles L. Basch's Obituary
Mr. Charles L. “Charlie” Basch, age 75, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his home. He was born on July 9, 1935 to Bernard and Martha (Roumpz) Basch, and resided in the area all of his life. Charlie was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired in 2000 as plant manager of Harbor Steel after 42 years of work. He also served 32 years in the Norton Shores Fire Department reaching the rank of Deputy Chief. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his two sons. He also enjoyed gardening, working around the house, taking care of his two dogs, Charlie and Teddy, but he especially liked his early morning coffee time at Norton Shores Fire Station #2. On August 9, 1958 he married the former Charlene Ward and she survives him along with 2 sons, Chuck Basch of Muskegon and Brent (Sandra) Basch of Canton, MI; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Marie (Charlie) Stonex, Tyler Scott Basch, Bryana Basch, and Brooke Basch; 2 great grandchildren, Natalie Rae, and Luke Charles; 5 brothers, Bernard (Barb) Basch, Dennis (Donna) Basch, Larry (Ruth) Basch, David (Keil) Basch, William Basch; and 1 sister, Pat (Robert) Kelly. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Bryan in 1972. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 20, 2010 at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Rev. Ronald Brentana officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday. Burial will be at Norton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to N.S.F.D. Canteen 450 or the American Heart Association will be appreciated.
