Erika Paulson
Thank you for your unpretentious friendship over many years, and good memories of Lew, your combined cooking, cherry trees in the back yard, Duffy and the shy kittycat.
We shared planning and assembling two quilts for our church. The first one for the bazaar, which could not be raffled, because Methodists don't do that! 45 pieces per block, with varying seam allowances by those who assembled the "crown of thorns" block (1 1/2 hour to sew a block, 1 1/2 to rip it apart!). Paulsons' poorly furnished 25' living room was a good place to lay it out and join the blocks, the bigger ones at one end and the smaller ones at the other end. Quilting in the Parsonage basement, graciously offered by Elaine Jongeward, weekly stitching bees. When Pastor Jongeward retired the two of us secretly engineered a friendship quilt for them: we had learned! 12" squares of sheet were handed out with the instructions to "make your own design", resulting in a delightful variety of family mementos and we understand, happily showed off by the retired Jongewards to Central visitors to their Florida home.
Olive Garden was a good place to meet in later years, with a good visit in the sunroom at the Grevel Court condo. Good memories, but alas, memories. A good friend is missed. Like a tree, a friend grows slowly, and leaves a vacant space when gone.
