Clarence was always Clarence to me. We went through Phillips on Broadway and Steele and then Muskegon High School together. He was always a dear friend and a touchstone for my early years. After high school in 1963 we both headed to sea, me by my going down to New Orleans to join the Merchant Marine and Clarence by joining the US Navy. I am deeply saddened to see his obituary but I feel better that he has spent his adult life with the love of his life and had many grand children who were certainly the apple of his eye.
