Mrs. Claribell C.B. Schofield's Obituary
Mrs. Claribell (C.B.) Schofield, age 96, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 27, 2014. She was born July 17, 1917 in Milwaukee, WI to Fred and Lillian (Sisson) Hein. On December 10, 1941 she married Captain Daniel Schofield in Huntsville, AL and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Schofield was involved in both civic and religious organizations. She was an early member of DeColores En Cristo in Muskegon having attended Weekend #4 and served as Rectoress of Weekend #96. She also led a weekly morning ecumenical prayer group. C.B. was a member of Northside Bible Church in North Muskegon and a former member of Mt. Zion Church of God in Muskegon where she served as Treasurer, Faith Lutheran Church in Laurium, MI, Trinity Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo, and St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, PA. Mrs. Schofield was a volunteer reading tutor at Marquette School, as well as a founding member of the Marquette Neighborhood Association. C.B. was also a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. In Plainwell and Hancock, she worked as a nursing aid, caring for the elderly. In Muskegon, she was a childcare worker at Childhaven, and in later years would often encounter adults who would thank her for the care and guidance provided to them as children. An advocate of lifelong education, Mrs. Schofield often told her children and grandchildren that "Books are our friends". C.B. learned to drive at the age of 70. She taught herself oil painting while in her fifties and continued to take art classes throughout her lifetime. Many of her paintings hang in the homes of friends and family. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. C.B. maintained lifelong correspondences, marking birthdays, anniversaries and holidays of friends and family with a card and letter. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Daniel (Barbara) Schofield, Jr. of Watervliet, Scott (Nancy) Schofield of Niles, Ruth Schofield of Muskegon, Timothy (Paula) Schofield of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, Liz (Brian) Sharda, Kelly (Aaron) Carambula, Kate Schofield, Chris Schofield, Carly Schofield; 3 great-grandchildren, Devon Flowers, Cadence Bella Sharda, Claire Beatrice Carambula; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Hollomon; and 3 brothers, Harry, Carl, and Clarence Hein. A CELEBRATION OF C.B.'S LIFE will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2014 at
The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Rev. Miriam Bush officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Northside Bible Church of North Muskegon or Harbor Hospice of Muskegon.
