Clyde Larson's Obituary
Mr. Clyde Larson, age 73, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the American House. He was born June 10, 1944 in Cheboygan to Walter and Ruth (Baxter) Larson. He graduated from Cheboygan High School in 1963. After graduation, Clyde spent several years sailing on the Great Lakes in different capacities. Ultimately, he chose a career in law enforcement and spent over 20 years working in Ingham County (Michigan), from which he ultimately retired. He also worked for Harbor Springs police department as a marine officer as well as for Emmet County. Rounding out quite the varied career, Clyde also was employed in the trucking industry, making both long haul and shorter distance trips.
Some of Clyde's favorite summer months were spent doing marine patrol in Harbor Springs. He loved everything to do with ships and the Great Lakes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow skiing and being on the water.
He is survived by two daughters, Megan (Josh) Hayes of West Olive, and Julie (Tobin) Smeltzer of Traverse City; three grandsons: Carter and Nolan Hayes, and Lincoln Smeltzer; sister, Joan Kirkman, brother, Walt (Grace) Larson. He is also survived by former spouse, Marcia Larson.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday April 29, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Pastor Jill VanderWal officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions in memory of Clyde may be given to the Harbor Springs Police Department Marine Division.
