Constance "Connie" Obits' Obituary
Constance Obits, well-known area artist, passed away on April 28, 2009. Constance has been painting in this area for over 50 years. She majored in fine arts at the University of New Mexico, and also studied through the University of Michigan extension service. She exhibited in juried shows across the state and won numerous awards. She had 26 one- and two-person shows, and is represented in many corporate collections. She sold her work in galleries in Detroit and Midland, and along the lakeshore from Holland to Pentwater. She was one of the first members of the Lakeland Artists, serving as president twice, and treasurer for five years. She was also a founding member of the Gallery Upstairs, now the Gallery Uptown.
Connie was also active in the Society for Creative Anachronism, serving as the Middle Eastern dance mistress for the past several years.
Constance was born in 1933 in Ohio. Survivors include her husband, Wallace Obits; a daughter, Suzanne (Charles) Eichhorst of Grand Rapids, and their children Heather, Charles, and Michelle; a son, Alan of Spring Lake; and a son Brian (Karen), also of Spring Lake.
A memorial reception for friends and family will be held on Sunday, May 31, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at the Escanaba Room in the Grand Haven Community Center, located at the corner of Columbus Ave., and 5th Street in Grand Haven.
