Daniel J. Grinwis' Obituary
Daniel J. Grinwis, age 73, ran into the arms of his Lord, Jesus, on December 11, 2024. He was born in Muskegon, MI to Donald Grinwis and Jean (Timmer) Grinwis on September 27, 1951. He attended West Michigan Christian schools and Muskegon Community College. He married Barbara (Simon) Grinwis May 28, 1971, and moved to Grand Rapids, MI one year later.
He was employed in various food service jobs: Smith Packing Company, VandenBrink Meats, and Holland American Wafer Company. He and Barbara were founding members of the Church of the Servant. His most impactful work began later in life after graduating from Reformed Bible College. He and his wife co-founded Oasis of Hope Center and later helped plant Downtown Christian Church. He has had many board memberships and positions in various city and community groups in the Grand Rapids area.
His most outstanding achievement, however, was being father to his three sons; Brandan, (Jasna) Grinwis, Ryan (Melissa) Grinwis, Kevan (Jamie) Grinwis and grandfather to numerous grandchildren: Tristan, Hezekiah, Reid, Reagan and Xavier Grinwis and Bella Idsinga. This year he was blessed with the following additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Boris (Radi), Monika and Kristian Strbac, Josip (Valeria) and Mila Strbac, Darko (Natalija), Tessa and Krista Strbac, and Mark and Sam Meade.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and sister, Joni (Joe) Andary. He is also survived by his four brothers-in-law: Jim (Kendra) Simon, Ron (Deb) Simon, Joe (Denise) Simon and Mike (Marina) Simon. He has one aunt, Lois Grinwis, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss his humor and presence.
A service celebrating Dan’s life will be held on December 16, held at Downtown Christian Church @ 1711 Walker Ave. NW, Grand Rapids. Visitation starts at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service starting at 11:00 am and a luncheon immediately following.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in Dan’s name to Downtown Christian Church.
