Mr. Daniel Christian Jayne's Obituary
Mr. Daniel Christian Jayne, age 62, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Spectrum Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born in Sitka, Alaska on March 17, 1953 to Eugene C. and Myrna D. (Willett) Jayne. He followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Coast Guard in 1973. While stationed in Grand Haven, he met Judy Lynn Kingshott whom he married on May 24, 1975. He worked at Reliable Auto Body for a few years, then as a cabinetmaker at Sligh Clock for around 20 years. For the last 10 years he worked at BOLD Furniture as a cabinetmaker. Dan also served in the Army National Guard, the Naval Reserves and the Civil Air Patrol. Dan was well known for his work in fine scale modeling, belonging to numerous clubs and having been published in the magazine Fine Scale Models for several years. He also loved woodworking, RC planes, painting and HO scale trains. Dan also had a love of books from a range of topics, his favorites being science, science fiction, fiction and history. His love of history included the Titanic, Great Lakes Shipwrecks and WWII, even writing a fictional novel himself. He also had a love of animals. Dan always had dogs and other pets in his life and he would constantly adopt animals needing to be rescued to a loving home. Dan is SURVIVED by his wife, Judy; children, Michael (Amanda) Jayne of Grand Rapids and Holly (Jason) Jayne Fox of Lansing; grandchildren, Melissa, Morgan and Makenzi; his niece, Myrna Jayne and nephew, Zach Jayne. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Jayne. A MEMORIAL VISITATION will be Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 2:00 PM-5:00 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100.
