Dan P. Westra's Obituary
Dan P. Westra, age 80, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at a local care facility. He was born April 23, 1926, to Charles and Elizabeth (Sytsema) Westra in Grand Haven, and he married Marian I. McLellan on January 23, 1945.
Mr. Westra was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area and had been employed as Chief Engineer for Challenge Machinery, Co. retiring at the age of 58. He served on the Coast Guard Festival Committee as well as in the advisory group for Muskegon Community College and Ottawa Area CareerLine Tech Center. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, traveling, spending time in his motorhome, and his winters in Florida. He also displayed a special interest in motorcycles, woodworking, helping his boys remodel their homes, and gardening, as well as a love for dogs.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Marian; three sons: Terry (Lin) Westra of Frankfort, Chuck (Connie) Westra of Grand Haven, and Mike Westra of Grand Haven; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte (Tom) Pegg and Dort (Bob) Lintjer, both of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Westra was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard.
The service for Mr. Westra will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with Rev. Doug Bytwerk officiating. Friends may meet the family from 3-7 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the funeral home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
